“SARAWAK ECO FASHION GALA SHOWS”
KUCHING
PertubuhanPenggiatKesenian dan Kraftangan Sarawak (Society Atelier Sarawak) with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Creativity Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak, BESarawak, Sarawak Crafts Council, Sarawak Tourism Board, Sarawak Tourism Federation will be hosting the Sarawak Eco-Fashion Galashows at the Dewan Sri Bunga Rampai, Kuching on Saturday 2ndand 3rd December.
This inaugural event will showcase the creativity of some of the best of Sarawak fashion designers partnering with craft artists and communities on the catwalk.This event will also be a curtain raiser for the bigger event in 2024 which will be known as the “SARAWAK INTERNATIONAL ECO FASHION WEEK”.
The global concern for the Environment has made "Green" a catch- word; and many producers of textiles and fashion are riding the tide and turning to what is labelled as “Eco-Fashion".
Sarawak, located in the Borneo, the 3rd largest island in the world is renowned for its lush rainforests, rich in its natural resources such as fibers and dyes, and a rich heritage of indigenous cultures renowned for the uniqueness and beauty of their hand woven, handmade textiles and accessories.
In the Sarawak Eco Fashion Gala, collaborators of Fashion Designers and Accessories designers and communities include:
Edric Ong & Juliana Embrose; Melinda Omar & Ibu Ngot; John Ang; Tanoti;
HarizanKhaider& Danny Keringkam; Batik Linut&Bokyart; Smyth Wong & Helping Hands Penan; Emil Hamlyn & Dickson Noyen;Fabriko;Abot Gudang
Unimas; Sandra Trinata; Michael Lim, Ramsay Ong and Senia Jugi.
International Guest Designers include Philippines-Narda’s; Kazakhstan-Aidarkhan; India- Bina Rao; Thailand- FTDC Udon Thani; Indonesia- Hesandra by Fanti Nurvita; Kazakhstan – Aizhan Bekkulova; Thailand- NuansriPromjai&Chabatik.
For the Sarawak Eco Fashion Gala, Mayor of Kuching City South, Dato Wee Hong Seng will be deputising YB Datuk Sri Karim Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Sarawak to inaugurate the Event. Attending the event will be the President of the World Crafts Council Asia Pacific, Mr Aziz Murtazaev from Uzbekistan, the Mayor of Taraz, Kazakhstan, the Mayor of Linshu, China, the President and Board Members of ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development Association (AHPADA), Mr Aidar Khan, President and Founder of Aspara Fashion Week and other influencers in the Fashion Industry.
Plans are on board for Sarawak International Eco Fashion Week to join the ranks of other renowned Fashion Weeks such as London Fashion Week, Milana Fashion Week, International Digital Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week etc. in the past, Society Atelier Sarawak together with the Sarawak Crafts Council have already participated in the Aspara Fashion week and International Digital Fashion Week. It is the plan to invite more international designers and Fashion industry players to come to participate in the event in Kuching Sarawak in 2024.
