A unique and cultural fashion collection was presented by Malaysian Designer
Edric Ong at the Fashion Extravaganza of World Crafts Council Asia Pacific
Assembly held in Jaipur India.
The Edric Ong Collection featured the unique textile techniques of the
indigenous Iban women weavers of Sarawak , Malaysian Borneo namely “pua
kumbu” (ikat), “pua sungkit’(discontinuous supplementary weft); “pua pilih’(
floating weft); and “pua karap” ( continuous weft) combined with hand spun
hand-woven silks and knitted hemp.
Some are rarely seen nowadays and all are one-of-a-kind pieces. The unique
rattan ‘topi tunjang’ hats and the hand-made accessories are also a signature
style of Edric Ong.
The EO brand by Edric Ong is in the forefront of Eco-Fashion and Slow
Fashion, consciously working with communities of weavers and crafts artists
to create and market 'hand-made' designs. Based out of Kuching, Sarawak,
Malaysian Borneo, the unique fashion of Edric Ong combines a touch of the
ethnic and oriental with the contemporary; innovative styles with creative use
of hand-woven silks and cottons.
