A Southeast Asian Fashion Odyssey- ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase international collaboration in Jakarta
July 2025
July 29, Jakarta Indonesia. Summarecon Mall was transformed into a spellbinding stage of myth, opulence, and midsummer enchantment as the ASEAN Fashion Designers Showcase (AFDS) joined forces with the Jakarta Fashion & Food Festival (JF3) for an unforgettable couture experience. Entitled “Myths, Majesty & Midsummer – A Southeast Asian Couture Odyssey”, the showcase united three fashion designers whose artistry transcended borders, each weaving the spirit of their nation into every exquisite stitch:
• Lao PDR – The Whisper of Silk – Bandid Lasavong. The palette is understated: ivory, champagne, antique gold, and soft jade. The details are a masterclass in craftsmanship — revived classical motifs embroidered in gold thread, subtle pearl accents, and structured cuts that echo vintage refinement.
• Vietnam – The Dream Enchanted – Nicky Vu. A Midsummer Night’s Dream*, Vietnam’s chapter is an ethereal reverie where Shakespearean fantasy meets Vietnamese femininity. Lace, tulle, and delicate appliqués bloom like wildflowers.
• Thailand – The Pulse of Pride – Pitnapat Yotinratanachai. Elephant-inspired embossing on leather, abstract tusk shapes in metallic accessories, and flowing capes that echo the movement of these majestic creatures dominate the collection. Colors shift to royal sapphire, onyx, and sunlit bronze.
This odyssey promised a sensorial journey – from the golden tapestries of Lao PDR to Vietnam’s sharp, sculpted glamour, to Thailand’s folkloric opulence – each look a chapter in Southeast Asia’s ever-evolving couture narrative.More than a runway show, Myths, Majesty & Midsummer is a celebration of cultural diplomacy through fashion, amplifying ASEAN’s voice in the global style conversation and reaffirming Jakarta as a vibrant hub of creative exchange.
AFDS was developed to raise awareness and appreciation for the unique style and diversity in the Asean region while promoting greater cross-cultural and creative collaboration. Growing mainstream regional awareness for fashion designers and models while nurturing up-and-coming, local fashion designers and models
